Police Standoff 12/27/2015
On Sunday December 27th 2015 at approximately 1:34 AM the Martinsburg Police Department responded to a call for a domestic in progress with a weapon. Patrol units responded to 1104 West Race Street Martinsburg WV. They discovered the wife of this domestic encounter outside hiding in the bushes of the residence. She advised that her husband, Timothy Scott Myers was inside the residence with a shotgun and had fired a shot at her. The police also heard the sound of another gunshot while there on the scene.
It was determined that her husband was inside the residence by himself and that he had several firearms in the residence. He was seen by police at one time possessing a shotgun and at another time a pistol. It was determined that he at least had access to a .45 caliber pistol, a .357 revolver a shotgun and a .380 pistol and an AR-15.
Communications were established with the husband via cell phone with Capt. Swartwood of the Martinsburg Police Department and numerous attempts were made to negotiate a peaceful conclusion to this standoff and to have him surrender himself peacefully to law enforcement.
During the negotiations he made several remarks that he had numerous weapons at his ready and that the police should not try to enter the residence he also advised that he wanted to end his life on numerous occasions.
At a point late in the negotiations he ended communications and would not answer his cell phone. After technical assistance from the US Marshalls a decision was made to enter the residence via the Martinsburg Special Response Team (SRT). The residence was entered by breaching the rear door. Once inside they discovered Mr. Myers in an upstairs bedroom and it appeared that he had overdosed on prescription pain medication and alcohol. Emergency personnel from the Martinsburg Fire Department responded to him and made attempts at life saving measures but he was pronounced deceased while at the scene.
The decedent was taken to Berkeley Medical Center to await the Medical Examiner and arrangements for an autopsy. The Martinsburg Police Department executed a search warrant at the residence at the conclusion and collected numerous firearms and ammunition and documented the evidence that shots had been fired inside the residence.
