On 12/23/2015, at approximately 1702, officers from the Martinsburg Police Department responded to Sophia’s at 790 Foxcroft Ave. in reference to a robbery which had just occurred. Upon arrival officers were advised, by a female clerk, that a male had entered the business wearing a dark jacket, sunglasses, and jeans. His hood was up.
The female initially approached him to greet him, but he directed her to the counter. She would advise officers that she could sense that something was about to happen by his body language.
She stated that once at the counter the male handed her a shopping back. She asked if it was trash and he advised her, in a low tone, to put the money from the register into the bag. She did as he told her. She did not see a firearm or other weapon but did not know for sure if he had one or not. He then took the bag and left the business.
The clerk described the male as a black male who appeared in his 30’s or 40’s. He was wearing a heavy dark jacket, blue jeans, dark tennis shoes and sunglasses.
At this time this agency is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the male in the accompanying photo. Anyone with information on this incident or this subject is asked to contact this agency at 304 264 2100 or contact the Berkeley County Crime Solvers at 304 267 4999.
