MPD Makes Prompt Arrest in Bank Robbery
On Saturday, September 3, 2016, at approximately 10:15AM, officers from the Martinsburg Police Department responded for a robbery that occurred at the Woodforest National Bank inside the Martinsburg Walmart. Upon their arrival, officers were advised by bank staff that a man had approached the bank counter and presented a note demanding money from the bank teller. He also alluded to possibly possessing a weapon. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank teller and then fled the store.
MPD officers worked with security personnel to quickly obtain pictures of the suspect and the vehicle he fled the scene in. Patrolman Stryker obtained a license plate number for the suspect vehicle from the surveillance footage and relayed the information to additional MPD officers and surrounding law enforcement agencies.
At approximately 10:50AM, Corporal Burner of the Martinsburg Police Department located the suspect vehicle on Wilson Street in Martinsburg and stopped it with the assistance of additional officers from MPD and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. Several individuals were located inside the vehicle including Mr. Robert Wayne Largent (DOB: June 4, 1982) who appeared to be the same individual from surveillance footage of the robbery. Evidence, including cash, linking Mr. Largent to the bank robbery was located on his person. Mr. Largent was placed under arrest and has been charged with first-degree robbery through the Berkeley County Magistrate Court.
“Our officers used attention to detail and professional excellence to quickly and safely remove a dangerous individual from our streets,” said MPD Sergeant Justin Darby. “We’re proud of the work our team did today!”
Officers and Detectives with the Martinsburg Police Department are continuing the thorough investigation of this incident. Mr. Largent is awaiting arraignment by a Berkeley County Magistrate on the robbery charge.
