Martinsburg Police Continue Arrest Sweep of Heroin Dealers

The Martinsburg Police Department continues to turn up the heat on drug dealers operating within our city. Early this morning, the Martinsburg Police Department conducted Phase IV of the Department’s “Operation Spring Cleaning.” Originally launched in May of last year, “Spring Cleaning” is an MPD enforcement initiative aggressively and effectively targeting all drug dealers in Martinsburg.

Detective Sergeant Adam Albaugh, the supervisor who led and coordinated the latest operation with MPD detective and patrol units, announced the arrests of nine more known heroin dealers and criminal warrants for four other individuals wanted for charges of illegal drug distribution. The most recent arrests and related warrants totaled 25 felony drug charges for distribution of heroin and were the result of exemplary police work and undercover investigations by members of the Martinsburg Police Department.

“We are proud to report the felony arrests and charging of a group of dangerous drug dealers who were until today, selling heroin across our community. “These are solid cases and resulted from a lot of dedication and hard work. Quality drug investigations takes teamwork between Detectives, Patrol Officers, and decent citizens. I want to recognize Captain Kevin Miller, Sergeant Justin Darby, Detective Corporal Jared Luciano, Detective Derek English, Patrolman Ryan Fritz, and Patrolman Joel Larson for their great work, and also the many community residents who stepped forward to help,” Albaugh added.

Chief Maury Richards enthusiastically praised the work of his Department’s officers. “The Martinsburg Police Department is on a mission: stopping drugs and locking up drug dealers. Sergeant Albaugh and our entire MPD team did a fantastic job. With our continual commitment to excellence, we will only keep getting better,” Richards said.

Deputy Chief George Swartwood confirmed the Chief’s comments stating, “We care about Martinsburg. This is our town and these are our kids. We have a really simple message to dope dealers, ‘Sell drugs in our town, and we’ll put you in jail.”

During today’s roundup, the Martinsburg Police Department was assisted by the United States Marshal Service, the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, the West Virginia State Police, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
