    MPD Officers Honored at Elks Law and Safety Day

        On Sunday, March 31st 2019 at The Martinsburg Elks Lodge 778, hosted its annual Law and Safety Day Dinner and Award Ceremony. This annual event is the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks program to recognize outstanding Law Enforcement and Fire and Safety personnel in their chosen profession. This program was hosted by its Chairman, Deputy Chief George B. Swartwood and Co-Chairman Rodney Woods. And haled by Nanci Hovermale Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 778, as one of its premier programs acknowledging and thanking Law Enforcement and Fire and Safety personnel for all they do in keeping us safe.

       There were fifteen recipients of awards from the Tri County area presented to them by their Departments Administrators and people that know them the best for their achievements and dedication to their profession and community.

      Recognized by Chief Maury Richards and Deputy Chief George Swartwood from the Martinsburg Police Department was Ptlm. Roderick Holloway. He was selected as this year’s recipient for his outstanding work and dedication to the police department, and his community in which he serves. Especially for his community efforts with the youth and residents of Martinsburg WV.

       Also, selected for the Special Recognition award from Elks Lodge 778 was (retired) Captain Kevin Miller for his outstanding service and loyal dedication for twenty-five years of service to the Martinsburg Police Department, where he advanced in each rank, arising to be Chief of this department. He was recognized for his outstanding work as a Detective and later in the managing of the Investigative Unit and also for his work as a member of the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force along with several other accolades.

       The attendees were greeted by the Martinsburg Police Department Honor Guard with the posting of our Flag and were also served a delicious roast beef dinner as well as the Lodge’s recognition and sincere thanks for a job well done.
