The Martinsburg Police Department will be conducting a Citizen’s Academy beginning in April of 2010. Enrollment in the program is free of charge and is open to persons over the age of 18 years of age who work or live in Berkeley County WV. The course will last approximately 9 weeks and will meet on Thursdays from 7-8:30pm at the Martinsburg Police Department.
The course will cover such topics as criminal investigations, drug investigations, criminal law, DUI, the Court systems, probation, parole and traffic law. Participants in the program will also be given a tour of the Eastern Regional Jail, will be shown various demonstrations by officers, including weapons and K-9 and will also be given Ride-Along opportunities with the Martinsburg Police Department.
The objective of the course is to provide an opportunity for participants to become familiar with the various aspects of law enforcement. Anyone who is interested in participating in the Citizen’s Academy, are urged to complete the application and return it to the Martinsburg Police Department, no later than Monday, March 22, 2010.
